Voting Right???.
Politics are something I loathe to talk about. These days’ politics are a medium to earn while in power. Some says we can change this trend through voting. Yes, Vote is a powerful decider. I have exercised my voting right only once since I got the right to vote twelve years ago.[ Just to see the electronic voting machines]. Reason is partly I am averse to politics and partly due to someone else has already caste MY VOTE, and the presiding election officer turned me away.
Constitution has given us, right to vote. The same constitution has provided us with so many other rights, which I am sad to say, do not till now. This can be attributed to faulty education system. When the system is faulty, where do we get the benefit? I need not have to travel up to voting station to vote, someone else may do that on behalf of me. That is the plight of my Vote.
As long as self serving politicians contest and win the elections, with money and muscle power, i think there is no meaning to Voting.
Low voter turnout is the concern in all democratic nations. Most advanced democracies like USA or UK, INDIA as well as budding democratic nations has the same problem of low voter turnout. Because, a small fraction of voting percentage can change the whole picture. Low voter turnout may be attributed to various reasons. But I think, aversion to politicians might be the strong reason.
There are lot of people like me who are simply averse to politicians rather than voting. I think it is up to the parties to put a good candidate and get our votes. Else no one can change the picture of low voter turnout leaving aside the politics.
